311 seconds over 56K MY FIRST COMPUTER This is a definitive breakdown of my old machine. There are links here to pages of information on my computer and its constituent parts. This system has been disected, many of its components are now in my new system, which is here My new computer. First, it is a Gateway Performance Series based custom configuration with an ATX tower case with a 250 Watt power supply with a turbo fan and processor heat sink enclosure. I have added two high speed fans as well, one at the rear of the case exhausting, the other on the side at the vents aimed directly on the processors heat sink. The Jabil E139761 motherboard. It was widely used by Gateway in 1998 and 1999 as well as other Jabil Circut customers. It is still produced as of June 2001, but in lesser quantities, and mostly for OEM replacement purposes. As you can see, it has 5 PCI slots and 1 AGP, as well as 1 ISA. It is dual slot1 processor capable. As well as PS/2 and keyboard inputs, it has two serial, one parallel connectors, and 4 USB slots. Using the Intel 440BX family, it has the FW82371EB (PIIX4E) Southbridge PCI controller, and the FW82443BX Northbridge AGP conroller. The Southbridge is responsible for the 5 PCI slots, the USB and the IDE contollers. The Norhtbridge is responsible for the AGP slot, the memory and the other IOs. Both interact with the single processor, or with only one of the two if both are installed. The system Front Side Bus is 100MHz, and it has three DIMM SDRAM slots, each able to deal with up to 128MB. (384 max) With a x8 system multiplier, it is capable of up to two 800MHz processors. Its BIOS is Pheonix B0X04W4S PCI slot1 is my Ultra66 dual drive IDE controller card, with a 20GB IBM 7200RPM FAT32 hard drive. I keep PCI slot 2 open, to allow better ventilation of the IDE controller card and the video card. PCI slot3 is my video card, the nVidia RivaTNT2Pro, AGP, 16 megs on board memory. I have tweaked my video aperture on the board to 256Megs. PCI slot4 is my sound card, the SoundBlasterLiveXPro, with surround, EAX 32bit. Front-out, Rear-out, center-out, mic, analog-out connectors. PCI slot 5 is my 3com network card for my internet connection, 1.5M/256 down/up from RoadRunner/ TimeWarner/AT&T, via a Motorola4100 cable modem. I use a Logitec three button TracBall on PS/2 I have a GatewayNatural Keyboard. Drive A is a generic 3.5 floppy Drive C is a IBM 7200 RPM 20GB IDE. Drive D is a Pioneer 12X DVD-ROM as master on primary conroller. Drive E is an Iomega 100Zip as slave on secondary controller. I do keep a system style disc in this drive. I make changes to system files, and the backups go here. As well, it is a bootable disc, with lots of extra dos files. muhahahahah Drive F is an NEC 7700 12x/4x/32x CDR/RW as master on secondary controller. I often keep a CDRW in this drive, and use it as a file backup for the larger stuff. When I make changes to webpages, like this one, I keep the backup files on a CDRW. I also keep saved installers, updates, drivers, utilities and progys on discs. Of course, I do burn music too.
